Candle light creates a cosy atmosphere for a dinner in company or a good read on the couch. Whereas people add more and more candles to their home decoration in the cold season, they often strip their balconies bare of any decorative elements, leaving very little to see apart from holiday lights. Of course, winter offers fewer opportunities to use the outside areas around the home, but that doesn't mean they have to look abandoned in the cold time of year. For those who want to enjoy looking at their own balconies even in the cold season or who like to wrap themselves up in a blanket and get a cup of tea in the cold air, the Christmas Rose with lantern in a window box is a good idea.
Fill the window box about 3/4 with soil – we chose a close-grained concrete box in trendy grey.
The Christmas Rose is the centrepiece and first plant to be planted. Put the small fir right next to it and plant lower plants towards the rim of the box.
On the other side of the Christmas Rose, cover the soil with moss. Finish off with a hardy evergreen dwarf juniper.
Place the lantern on the moss between the plants to create the impression the plants are growing around it all naturally. For outside use on the balcony, use wire to secure the lantern in the soil.
Finally, wrap some wire around the cones and add them wherever it seems suitable. Top off the window box with felt ribbon and a decorative star.
A small light burning in the lantern beside the Christmas Rose is a beautiful romantic alternative to a standard chain of fairy lights.
