Eastern teaberry (Gaultheria procumbens) and a red felt ribbon add a touch of Christmas to this window box
Christmas the classic way

Eastern teaberry (Gaultheria procumbens) and a red felt ribbon add a touch of Christmas to this window box. The box itself is kept deliberately plain and low-key to let the festive arrangement of the white Christmas Rose flowers with bold red and green colours take the stage.

  • Step 1 Window box classic

Fill the window box about two-thirds full with potting soil so that the tops of the root balls do not stand out above the box rim.

    Step 2 Window box classic

Remove the plastic pots and insert the plants so that the tops of the root balls can be lightly covered with soil. Start at one end of the box, using a slightly taller-growing plant. Lawson's cypress is a perfect element in this Christmas window box.

    Step 3 Window box classic

Arranging the pearlwort right in front of the Lawson's cypress creates the impression of a miniature forest glade. This is the right spot to place a decorative twig later.

    Step 4 Window box classic

Now plant the other plants into the box, starting next to the Lawson's cypress. Fill the spaces between plants with soil. Pure white Christmas Rose and bright red eastern teaberry (Gaultheria procumbens) in close juxtaposition make a thrilling combination.

    Step 5 Window box classic

Allow the fescue to stand out behind the Christmas Rose to provide an airy backdrop. Cover any potting soil that is still visible with moss. Use some wire to secure pieces of bark and branches.

    Finished! Window box classic

Garnished with a red felt bow, this Christmas decoration for the window sill or balcony looks itself like a Christmas present.
