The green, pink-tinged buds of the Lenten Rose Anja Oudolf open in February, presenting stunning yellow flowers with delicate raspberry veins. The nectaries and anthers are a deep red and form a contrasting backdrop to the bright yellow flower centre. The backsides of the flowers are rimmed with a red shimmer that extends the long-lived perennial's attractiveness beyond the end of its flowering period.
